Design and Economic Analysis of Stand-alone Photovoltaic (PV) System for the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering Building, Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ibogun Campus, Nigeria

Abstract
The important of energy supply in a University building in any Country cannot be over-emphasized. One major needs of a University is constant power supply. This study focuses on the use of a stand-alone PV-system to power the department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Ibogun campus, Nigeria. The ratings of PV-panels, charge controller, battery and inverter, together with their numbers were determined in this study. The results reveals that a total number of 94 PV panels, 16 batteries, 1 inverter and 1 charge controller are required. The ratings of the system component obtained were 23.24kW, 1189.24Ah, 100A and 12.5kVA for PV panels, battery capacity, charge controller and inverter respectively. The result also reveals the NPV and DPBP of the system to be ₦32,834,459.71 and 1.7 years respectively. The COE of the stand-alone system was determined to be ₦0.7859/kWh, which is far short of the grid tariff in Nigeria.
